it's on the doorstep

I awoke today and found the frost perched on the town
It hovered in a frozen sky, then it gobbled summer down
When the sun turns traitor cold
and all the trees are shivering in a naked row
I get the urge for going but I never seem to go

I get the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown
Summertime is falling down and winter is closing in

The Urge for Going by Joni Mitchell

Wow...frost already?

If you really want to be like Joni Mitchell's song, you will need to start chain smoking A LOT so you too can have that "throaty" quality as you get the urge to go. ;)

If you want deep Joni Mitchell, try this:
"Moons and junes and ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real; i've looked at love that way.
But now it's just another show. you leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know, don't give yourself away."

Yep, we got the first frost of the season. We've lost a handful of vegetables to it. And it's funny you mention that "deep" Joni Mitchell song: we sang it in morning meeting this morning!

I think Joni Mitchell is how the French say, "in the air" today.

Funny that you mentioned her, I mentioned her back, then everyone sang-one of what I know is your FAVORITE-her song at morning meeting! Val posted a video of Joni's today on her myspace blog...

Weird!

It frosted already?!? Holy cow... I guess it is Fall. You know, you won't be there throughout the duration of the winter, how does that feel?

But winter on the farm is so wonderful! It's the rainy dreary bits in between seasons that are best missed.

The urge for going song got stuck in my head for nearly two solid months when I started driving cross-country. It's still back in there somewhere, pressing. Are some people really like the geese, who can never stay for long?
